Taaleri Energia and KJK Capital announced on September 24, 2026 that their funds are backing the Raudsepa battery energy storage project in Estonia, a 192 MW/420 MWh facility located roughly 50 kilometers south of Tartu. The Estonia battery storage project is financed through Taaleri’s SolarWind III Fund and KJK Fund III, with construction beginning this month and full operation targeted for November 2027.

Raudsepa is being developed by Evecon in partnership with the French independent power producer Corsica Sole. The Estonian company Smartecon holds the turnkey construction contract, while LG Energy Solution is supplying the battery cells and the European manufacturer Power Electronics is supplying inverters. Once operational, the project is set to capture revenue from electricity arbitrage and ancillary-services markets, according to project announcements.

Raudsepa’s 192 MW/420 MWh battery storage system is scheduled to move from financing to full operation within about 14 months.

Fund context

Taaleri’s SolarWind III Fund reached final close in January 2026 with €630 million in commitments, targeting utility-scale renewable and storage assets across Nordic, Baltic, Polish, Southeast European, Spanish and Texan markets, according to Renewable Watch. Ville Rimali, Taaleri Energia’s energy storage investment director, said the Raudsepa deal “marks the SolarWind III Fund’s first BESS project in Estonia” and underscores the fund’s view of the market’s potential, according to the project announcement.

The Raudsepa project adds to a run of Baltic battery storage investment that Winss Solutions has tracked, including Latvenergo’s expansion of Baltic battery storage and solar capacity in neighboring Latvia. It also follows a broader pattern of European storage financing this year, such as Sonnedix securing 730 million euros for EU solar and storage projects.

Background

Taaleri Energia is the energy investment arm of Taaleri, a Finnish asset manager that develops and finances renewable energy and storage projects across Northern and Central Europe. KJK Capital is an investment firm managing infrastructure and renewable energy funds, including KJK Fund III, which co-invests in utility-scale clean energy assets alongside partners such as Taaleri. Estonia’s electricity grid has drawn increasing battery storage investment as the Baltic states desynchronize from the Russian-controlled electricity grid and integrate more fully with the continental European system, a transition that has raised demand for storage capable of providing ancillary services and grid balancing. The Raudsepa project is scheduled to enter service in November 2027, adding a further 420 MWh of storage to that regional buildout.
