Rept Battero unveils 320 Ah sodium-ion cell for long-duration storage

Rept Battero unveiled a 320 Ah sodium-ion storage cell at SNEC 2026, rated for 20,000+ cycles and –50°C to 60°C, with mass production due in 2027.

Chinese manufacturer Rept Battero has launched a 320 Ah sodium-ion storage cell aimed at utility-scale, long-duration projects and extreme climates. The company introduced the “Wending” cell at SNEC 2026 in Shanghai, the industry’s main solar-and-storage trade show, according to coverage by pv magazine published on 17 June 2026. Rept Battero states the cell is built for grid and large commercial projects that need a long service life and a wide operating-temperature range, with discharge durations of four hours or more.

The figures quoted are the company’s own and have not yet been independently tested in the field. Rept Battero says the cell is at the A-sample validation stage, with mass production and commercial deliveries planned for 2027. Alongside it, the firm showed an 85 Ah high-power lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cell aimed at storage for AI data centres.

What the sodium-ion storage cell offers

Rept Battero rates the Wending cell at 320 ampere-hours, with a cycle life of more than 20,000 cycles, round-trip efficiency of at least 97%, and an operating window of –50°C to 60°C. The company claims a service life of 25 to 30 years and says the sodium-ion storage cell still delivers more than 87% of its capacity when discharging at –50°C. On safety, it reports the sodium-ion storage cell passed overcharge and nail-penetration tests without fire, explosion or thermal runaway, and that the terminals use double insulation and double sealing. The gains come from material changes to the cathode, anode and electrolyte intended to improve ion transport, cycle stability and cold-weather performance.

Why sodium-ion matters for storage

Sodium-ion chemistry uses abundant sodium instead of lithium, which can ease pressure on the critical-mineral supply chains behind most of today’s grid batteries. Its appeal for long-duration storage rests on cold-weather tolerance and cycle life rather than energy density, where lithium-iron-phosphate still leads.

The wide temperature range Rept Battero claims targets sites that are hard for conventional cells – far-northern projects and desert renewable bases – where storage is needed to smooth output. That is the same problem Winss Solutions has examined in asking whether renewable energy is really unreliable because of intermittency: storage lets a grid bank surplus solar and wind and release it when generation drops. Long-duration cells also underpin the microgrids that combine solar, wind, storage and fuel cells to keep local supply steady.
