NOX Energy Raises €3 Million to Expand Home Energy Grid Flexibility Platform

Belgian startup NOX Energy raised €3 million in seed funding on October 2, 2026, to link home heat pumps, solar panels and batteries to the power grid.

Belgian startup NOX Energy raised €3 million ($3.4 million) in seed funding, the company said on October 2, 2026, to expand a NOX Energy grid flexibility platform that connects home heat pumps, solar panels, batteries and electric vehicles to electricity markets. Rise PropTech and Volve Capital co-led the round, with participation from Seeder Fund, Uneti Ventures, Fair Capital Impact Fund and 100in.

How the NOX Energy grid flexibility platform works

Founded in 2024 by chief executive Axelle Moortgat, chief operating officer Louis Clermont and Martin Michaux, NOX Energy builds software that manufacturers and energy suppliers can embed directly into their own apps, rather than requiring homeowners to install a separate device or application. The platform adjusts when connected devices draw power based on electricity prices, weather forecasts and grid conditions, and forecasts household consumption over a 24-hour window. The company has connected more than 10,000 devices over the past year and counts energy suppliers Eneco and Frank Energie among its customers, operating in Belgium and the Netherlands with a 13-person team.

Moortgat said the company wants to standardize how energy devices communicate with markets. “Every time money moves between two banks, it runs over SWIFT. We want to be that for energy flexibility,” she said, according to Tech Funding News. NOX Energy states that connected households can cut energy costs by up to 28% and earn up to €200 a year by shifting consumption to lower-price periods, though the company did not disclose how these figures were calculated or whether they have been verified independently.

Scaling up from a 2024 pre-seed round

The seed round follows roughly $1 million in pre-seed funding NOX Energy raised in December 2024 from Volve Capital, Seeder and angel investors, according to Silicon Canals, bringing the company’s total disclosed funding to close to €4 million. NOX Energy will use the new capital to expand beyond Belgium and the Netherlands into additional European markets and to integrate its optimization software directly into more manufacturers’ and energy suppliers’ existing applications.

Part of a wider push to connect home devices to the grid

NOX Energy’s approach echoes a broader trend of grid modernization actions that US states advanced in the second quarter of 2026, and parallels Reservoir’s $8 million raise for a predictive heat pump water heater aimed at a similar flexibility market. New Jersey’s Virtual Power Plant proposal reflects similar regulatory interest in aggregating distributed home energy devices, though NOX Energy itself operates in Belgium and the Netherlands rather than the US. Wind and solar supplied 30% of the European Union’s electricity in 2025, according to figures cited by Tech Funding News, a share that increases the value of software able to shift flexible household demand to match variable generation.

About NOX Energy

NOX Energy was founded in 2024 in Belgium by Axelle Moortgat, Louis Clermont and Martin Michaux, who met shortly before launching the company and were accepted into the Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator program in New York within months of founding it. The founders raised an initial $1 million pre-seed round in December 2024 from Volve Capital, Seeder and angel investors to build software connecting heat pumps to energy markets. Since then, NOX Energy has expanded its platform to cover solar panels, batteries and electric vehicles, signed Eneco and Frank Energie as customers, and connected more than 10,000 devices across Belgium and the Netherlands. The October 2026 seed round is intended to fund the company’s expansion into additional European markets.
