Brazilian reforestation company Mombak delivered more than 21,000 verified carbon removal credits to corporate buyers including Google, McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, McLaren Racing, Climeworks, Commons and Union Square Ventures, ESG Today reported on August 5, 2026, citing figures more than two years ahead of the delivery date originally expected in 2028. The credits stem from Mombak’s native reforestation projects in the Brazilian state of Para, where the company has planted nearly 15 million native trees across 12 restoration sites on degraded cattle pasture, using more than 80 native Amazon tree species under 100-year permanence commitments, according to Carbon Credits.
The delivery marks the first completed credit delivery under the Symbiosis Coalition, a corporate buyers’ group that aims to contract more than 20 million tonnes of nature-based carbon removal by 2030. Mombak’s Amazon project was the coalition’s first selected project, chosen from 185 proposals submitted from 40 countries in its inaugural request for proposals, according to Trellis.
Amazon reforestation carbon credits: what changed
The credits were formally issued through Isometric, a scientific carbon registry, rather than Verra, the registry originally used for baseline and monitoring work on the project. Quantum Commodity Intelligence reported that Mombak shifted the project from Verra to Isometric in April 2026, citing delays, with Isometric issuing the project’s first afforestation, reforestation and revegetation (ARR) credits on July 1, 2026. The August delivery followed that registry switch. Mombak Chief Commercial Officer Dan Harburg said: “The carbon market has unfortunately had a lot of challenges with underdeliveries and late deliveries from suppliers across the board. Being two years early in some of our first deliveries is really valuable for the relationships that we build with existing buyers and with other buyers,” according to Carbon Credits.

No source has published a breakdown of how many of the 21,000 delivered credits went to each individual buyer. Separately, Google has a broader offtake agreement with Mombak: the company said in a November 2025 blog post that it was purchasing 200,000 tonnes of carbon removal from Mombak, four times the size of its earlier 50,000-tonne deal, while Trellis reported that Google and McKinsey together committed to 215,000 tonnes under the Symbiosis Coalition framework. Those are purchase commitments rather than the volume delivered in August 2026, and should not be conflated with the 21,000-tonne delivery. Microsoft has a separate 1.5-million-tonne carbon removal commitment with Mombak through 2032 but was not named among the buyers in this delivery.
Mombak has raised more than $200 million from investors including Bain Capital, AXA IM Alts, Lowercarbon Capital, Kaszek Ventures and Union Square Ventures, including an additional $30 million raised earlier in 2026, and has signed roughly $150 million in carbon removal agreements with corporate buyers, according to Carbon Credits. The company’s credits have historically traded above $50 per tonne, based on a 2023 company statement cited by Trellis. About Mombak
Mombak is a carbon removal company founded in 2021 and headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The company restores degraded cattle pasture in the Amazon by planting native tree species, generating carbon removal credits that it sells to corporate buyers under long-term agreements. Mombak’s projects were originally monitored using Verra baseline and verification frameworks before the company shifted its Para project to the Isometric registry in April 2026, which issued the project’s first ARR credits in July 2026. The company has built a buyer base that includes Google, Microsoft, McKinsey, Bain, Climeworks and other members of the Symbiosis Coalition. With this month’s early delivery, Mombak said it expects to issue more than 55,000 additional credits before the end of 2026 as its Para reforestation projects continue to mature.
